Uton directed a production of Langston Hughes' seminal Black Nativity for ACCA Creates in Newark, New Jersey

 

Uton had the opportunity to sing works by William Grant Still with the BCCO Orchestra at the Brooklyn Museum.

August 2025

Uton performed at The Green Room in NYC, playing bass, singing, and arranging vocal harmonies for The Cranberry Reckoning, a cabaret/performance of the music of the legendary Cranberries by Erin Maya & the Reckoning

May 2025

Uton wrapped up his run in The Algorhythms at the Magnet Theater in NYC! Stay tuned for details on the cast album!

Uton participated in Miriam Pultro's The Road at the The Tank in NYC, singing and performing works by the composer.

May 2024

Uton had the honor of playing bass for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)

Written in the trenches of the Civil Rights Movement, Sam Cooke's timeless classic speaks to all eras of struggle. Uton arranged an acappella version of the song for his brother Azudi's 54 Below debut. With Azudi on lead vocals and featuring Uton and Broadway's Erica Dorfler and Lulu Fall. Until change.

Uton is an East Coast based stage, film, and voice actor/singer/musician/writer who has performed Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway, in venues throughout NYC, and regional theatres all around the country, in addition to film, television appearances, and voice acting.

Uton has performed in various festivals, premieres, and venues such as 54 Below, Joe's Pub, BAM, The Green Room, The United Nations, The Duplex, The Rainbow Room, Subculture, Ziegfeld Ballroom, Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene's Grocery, The Bitter End, NJPAC, and many more.

Director/Educator

In addition to his work as an actor, singer, musician, composer, and writer, Uton also has developed his practice as an arts educator and director, working with students, adults, and professionals.

As an arts educator, Uton currently works at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) as a Creative Coach for aspiring young artists, with the goal of developing their artistry and individual voices as artists. He previously served as the Drama Department Chair at the Newark School of the Arts, and has taught in various schools throughout the Tri-State Area through organizations such as the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, ACCA Creates, and Medgar Evers College. He is also the Board President for the Liminal Theater Collective, an ensemble of multidisciplinary artists dedicated to developing and producing new and reimagined works by artists of color.

 

He has been a guest lecturer at Queens College, a panelist for New York Arts in Education Roundtable's Face to Face Conference, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Teaching Artists Journal. He has attended Lincoln Center's famed Lincoln Center Education Summer Forum for leading arts educators worldwide, and intends to foster opportunities for accessible, professional, quality, and culturally responsive theater and music education and experiences for all communities.​​
